Moroccan Gnawa Fusion with Afrobeat and Blues
Gnawa Trance Fusion invites the audience in an experience of celebration and being singing, rhythms and dance, come with your dancing feet.
Fronted by Moroccan lead singer and guembri player Omar Afif, Gnawa Trance Fusion play a roots fusion of Gnawa blues, psychedelic jazz and afrobeat.
Baladinda (wooden xylophone), endongo (thumb piano), violin, krakeb (metal castanets), guitar, drumkit, and the gnawa bass-lute (guembri) unify to create this entrancing world music sound. Gnawa music has a preserved heritage of ritual Sufi poetry and dance. These are performed at entire communal nights of spirituality and healing called Lilas, where audience members can enter trance states.
