Mentored by four-time winner of the Scots Singer of the Year Award Siobhan Miller and described by much-loved songwriter and troubadour Martin Stephenson as 'one of his favourite artists', Joanie Bones gathers the fragments of cultures, lands and songs into a music of soul, spirit and connection. A talented writer of contemporary folk song, Joanie also keeps a vast compendium of traditional songs filed in her heart. Joanie isn't your typical folk singer: her daily life as a Persian/Jewish Londoner living in the remote Scottish Highlands give her a unique perspective on the British folk tradition, which she has loved and sang for decades. Her music is compelling and important, often moving people to tears. Joanie's compelling live performances feature a capella vocal looping, experimental percussion (aka welly-bashing) and her truly unique take on contemporary Scottish folk music. Having previously worked as a professional storyteller in some of the UK's most deprived neighbourhoods, Joanie is something of a modern-day bard, committed to using song and story as a power for exploring meaning and creating unity.
Part 1 of Joanie's groundbreaking women’s song project THE SHAME//THE LIGHT is due for release in autumn 2022.
