Pianodrome Live: From the Labyrinth + Maud the Moth

Thursday 25th August 9pm

From the Labyrinth

Composed of the French violinist Fay Guiffo and the pianist Chris Lyons, From The Labyrinth brings the lost tradition of classical music improvisation back to life. They push the boundaries of the ritualised experience of the concert hall, exploring the evocative power of movement and words, immersing their audience into a lively and poetic space.

Maud the Moth

Maud the Moth was founded in 2010, as the solo project of Amaya López-Carromero; a Madrid-born, Edinburgh-based pianist, singer and songwriter who spent much of her childhood and teenage years studying classical music, writing stories and recording music demos on the family twin cassette deck. Naturally evolving from what has been a life-long motivation, Maud the Moth serves as Amaya’s personal alter ego; a conduit for her personal life experiences which draws on a wide-ranging musical background and where disparate influences are carefully woven into a rich, dark and heartfelt musical tapestry with an eclectic and unique personality. This commitment to her own personal vision has attracted a wide variety of programmers over the year, leading to performances in numerous international festivals (AMFest, Festival Noroeste, Celtic connections, Hidden door, Noite Branca, Eden Festival, Heineken Jazzaldia, etc.) and venues (Ronnie Scott's, Howard Assembly Rooms, Barcelona’s Museum of Modern Arts CCCB, Sala Apolo, O2 ABC Glasgow, Lyceum theatre in Edinburgh, etc.) both as a solo act and supported by a band.

Maud the Moth has released three full-lengths so far: 'Home Futile Home' (2011), 'The Inner Wastelands' (2015) and 'Orphnē' (2020), plus the live EP 'Live at the Reid Hall' (2017). Her music has collectively gained over three and a half million plays on Spotify, and has been featured by BBC Introducing, Radio 3 RNE and numerous online radio stations.
