Pianodrome Live: Hailey Beavis + Faith Eliott
Friday 12th August 9pm
Hailey Beavis
Deep pop singer songwriter Hailey Beavis is set to release her new album November this year.
Hailey's EP ‘Whatever You Feel I Do Too’ was released in 2020
on OK Pal Records to critical acclaim, and received radio play from Roddy Hart and Vic Galloway of BBC Radio Scotland, as well as becoming Single of the Week on The Afternoon Show with Janice Forsythe.
The Skinny said:
“Five ethereal tracks switch between insistent buzzing guitars that drive ever forwards, and gently sanguine fingerpicking backing introspective lyricism… a record so full of fuck-you realism played off against pensive faith.”
The National said:
“the EP sees the honey-lunged Beavis exploring love, loss and learning to be yourself in a tone that’s vulnerable and honest but resolute.”
Faith Eliott
Faith Eliott (they/them) is a visual artist and alt-folk musician based in Glasgow, UK. They grew up in Minneapolis and relocated to Scotland as a teenager.
Lyric-driven songwriting is the cornerstone of Eliott’s music. They write with poignancy, narrative and imagination on subjects such as prehistoric landscapes, climate anxiety, luxury cars and sea sponges. Despite some of the esoteric subject matter, Eliott retains a down to earth, personal edge.
Eliott’s debut LP ‘Impossible Bodies’ was released in 2019 on OK Pal Records. It comprised a collection of songs each based on a different animal - a concept inspired by Eliott’s interest in medieval bestiaries. These stories are set to an atmospheric mix of finger-picking guitar, strings, electric guitar and percussion. Sometimes swirling and aquatic, sometimes doomy, and sometimes more patently ‘folk’.
‘Impossible Bodies’ was received to critical acclaim and broadcast on BBC Radio 3, 4, and 6Music.
Eliott is currently at work on a new album.
In addition to their personal work, Eliott co-founded OK Pal Records in 2018 with Edinburgh based artist Hailey Beavis. OK Pal is a fiercely independent, artist-led record label and promoter. They have been swiftly making a name for themselves in the Scottish grassroots music community with releases from local artists, compilations, and multidisciplinary live music events.
“[Eliott] will surely be championed for years to come as one of the finest lyricists of their generation” - Drowned in Sound
"You know what there’s not enough of in pop music? Albums about medieval bestiaries... As an artist, Faith Eliott is nothing if not fascinating." - God Is in the TV
