Pianodrome Live: Nimbus Sextet + Scotts Baroque
Friday 5th August 9-11pm
Nimbus Sextet
Nimbus Sextet are one of the most innovative bands in the new wave of UK jazz. Led by pianist/keyboardist Joe Nichols and signed to Acid Jazz Records, the multi-national contemporary jazz outfit fuses their jazz, world, hip-hop and funk influences uniquely into a strong melodic blend that has set them apart from their contemporaries.
Their new album 'Forward Thinker' features guest spots from top UK jazz musicians including Nathaniel Cross, Jackson Mathod, Charlotte de Graaf, Jonny Enser and others. This special concert at The Pianodrome as part of the Edinburgh Fringe 2022 follows hot off the heels of album launch shows at the prestigious New Morning in Paris and Pizza Express in London, and a packed out debut performance at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club back in January.
Having garnered widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Jazzwise, BBC Radio 2 and major support from Jazz FM (including achieving the prestigious 'Album Of The Week' spotlight with both of their albums), the band have firmly established themselves as a major voice in the new wave of British jazz.
Scotts Baroque
An innovative new early music ensemble based in Glasgow, Scotland. Their inspiration comes from music of the baroque period, but they also experiment with a fusion of techniques and genres, including improvisation, folk, and new music written for old instruments. The group's members perform with leading ensembles such as Dunedin Consort, Concerto Caledonia, Academy of Ancient Music, Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment, and Les Musiciens de Saint Julien. Scots Baroque brings together an impressive range of experience, with programmes combining the latest research, unusual repertoire, and a flair for dramatic performance.
