Pianodrome Live: Firelight Trio + Trass
Saturday 6th August 9-11pm
Firelight Trio
The newly formed supergroup Firelight Trio play European folk music that is evocative, inventive, and endlessly exciting. Driving fiddle and stately nyckelharpa meet deep accordion grooves in a rich tapestry of lively Swedish polskas and Scottish reels, lilting French waltzes, toe-tapping klezmer, dazzling original tunes and more.
The line-up features the extraordinary talents of Phil Alexander (formerly of Moishe’s Bagel & Salsa Celtica) Ruth Morris and Gavin Marwick (both former Whirligig and Bellevue Rendezvous members).
Trass
Running chopped up stems from a preconceived album Elie Afif (Producer/Writer, Bassist) creates a new live version of the album at each live performance. Chris Greive adds his trombone to the mix getting involved in the effects available, putting signals through digital paths or playing off-mic acoustically into the space.
Through the performance, electric bass and trombone joust for solo space on blocks of sounds or trade fresh lines through Arabic sonic textures constructed in real-time. This is beat-driven music with the spice of jazz harmony breaking the rules. Should you nod or dance?
Originally from Beirut, Lebanon, Elie Afif is one of the most recognised bass players coming out of the Middle East region.
